Crypto.com is launching a new prediction-market product that will let users trade on how artificial intelligence reshapes work, consumer behavior and major industries.
AMBCrypto reported on August 31 that Crypto.com has signed a two-year exclusive partnership with payments and financial data analytics firm PYMNTS to roll out AI-related prediction contracts. More than 20 contracts are set to be introduced starting in September, with about 25 additional contracts planned each quarter thereafter.
Unlike traditional prediction markets tied to elections or sports results, the new product will focus on the real-world pace of AI adoption and its economic effects. Main topics include consumer behavior, workplace changes, corporate AI adoption, healthcare, retail and financial services.
The contracts will trade through OG Prediction Markets, an exchange and clearinghouse regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Crypto.com and other partner platforms will give users access to the products.
Contract settlement will be based solely on data collected by PYMNTS Intelligence. PYMNTS surveys 4,000 US adults each month on how they use AI in work, education, shopping and healthcare.
The product will also incorporate corporate AI adoption. Each quarter, PYMNTS surveys 500 US companies on their use of AI agents and automation technology, tracking productivity gains as well as changes in employment and software demand. It also analyzes corporate disclosures, earnings materials and public statements to gauge AI's impact on investment, revenue and staffing.
The specific prediction questions have not been disclosed. One possible structure would be a contract tied to whether AI usage among US workers rises above a certain level in a future survey, allowing users to take positions based on expected results. Settlement would then be determined by the actual survey outcome.
PYMNTS has about 30 months of historical data and plans to use it as a baseline to measure changes in AI adoption trends. Users will therefore be trading less on the overall success of the AI industry and more on the pace of adoption and economic impact reflected in surveys and corporate data.
