The CLARITY Act could clear Congress before the November midterm elections, French Hill, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said.
CoinGape reported on Sept. 5 that Hill told Fox Business in a recent interview that passing the CLARITY Act is critical, echoing the view of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins. He also said the bill could be approved before the midterms.
The CLARITY Act is set for a procedural vote in the Senate on Sept. 15. Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed a cloture motion on the bill before Congress recessed last month.
Republicans hold 53 seats in the Senate, short of the 60 votes needed to end a filibuster and move the legislation forward.
Hill also urged Democrats to support the bill. He noted that 78 House Democrats voted for the CLARITY Act when the chamber passed it last year and said it was now time for the Senate to do the same. He added that senators from both parties have spent the past year working continuously to find common ground.
