Token unlocks are coming back as a risk for altcoins

This week the market will be watching another round of large token unlocks. A token unlock means that previously locked tokens enter circulation and can be sold by investors, the team, or earlier participants of financing rounds.

The list of the biggest unlocks includes https://t.co/uaqaVObF4j. RAIN, PUMP, ADI, STABLE and APT. The largest of them concerns RAIN, where the unlock value is expected to reach several hundred million dollars. Large unlocks also appear for PUMP and ADI, so these projects may be more closely watched by traders.

For altcoins this is often an important moment, because higher supply can put pressure on price, especially if the project lacks strong demand. Even a good project may look weak in short term if many new tokens appear on market.

Therefore before buying an altcoin it's worth checking not only the chart and narrative, but also the tokenomics and unlock calendar. Sometimes a price drop is not due to lack of belief in the project, but because the market has to absorb new supply.

For your ref, Rain is an infrastructure platform for launching prediction market apps.

An investment here could go 1 of 2 ways:

1/ Bull case

• Rain + @Enlivex continue with quality distribution
• Platform continues riding an already hot prediction market narrative
• More CEX listings
• More apps start launching on Rain's stack

2/ Bear case:

• Thin traction
• Enlivex holds 7% of supply and could dump at any time
• RAIN cost basis + unlock schedule aren't public

IMO, they’re leaning hard into the prediction market + World Cup narrative, and it makes me cautious.

This could end very badly if you ask me.
