BitTorrent launches BTTInferGrid: turning idle GPUs into a decentralized AI compute network
Now many people, after training large models, find that the real money‑burning part is the inference stage. Centralized cloud platforms are expensive, can get congested during peak times, while a huge amount of GPUs worldwide sit idle, causing a severe supply‑demand mismatch that makes it hard for small teams and individual developers to use.
BTTInferGrid officially launched
Recently BitTorrent rolled out BTTInferGrid. This is a decentralized compute network specifically built for AI inference. It connects idle GPUs around the globe into a shared compute pool, allowing developers to call resources on demand without relying entirely on traditional cloud providers.
How does the network operate?
People who own GPUs can become miners, contributing their idle GPUs to earn rewards. Demand side submits tasks via API, and on‑chain verification mechanisms ensure the computation results are authentic and reliable. It already supports common models such as Qwen and Llama, and the whole process is paid per actual usage, making costs more flexible.
Advantages behind the project
BitTorrent previously accumulated mature decentralized scheduling experience in the file‑sharing domain, and now directly applies it to AI compute scenarios. Compared with centralized platforms, it has advantages in resource utilization and cost control. The more idle GPUs there are, the lower the overall compute price, creating a positive feedback loop and making it easier for small developers to participate in AI application development.
