EU has published new financial supervision rules that will come into force in 2027, bringing stricter measures regarding cash, user identity, and privacy-focused coins.

The measures include:
- a €10,000 limit for cash payments;
- an identification requirement for certain transactions over €1,000;
- restrictions for privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies such as Monero, Zcash, and Dash on regulated platforms.

Critics say Europe is moving towards an increasingly extensive financial surveillance system and that anonymity in financial transactions is becoming more limited.

However, supporters of the new rules claim they are necessary to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and financial fraud.

Europe is regulating privacy away

From 2027 the next level of EU anti‑money‑laundering rules will apply: a €10,000 cash limit, stricter KYC obligations from €1,000 for crypto transactions, and a de‑facto ban on anonymous crypto accounts with regulated providers. Privacy coins such as Monero, Zcash or Dash are therefore not prohibited to own, but are effectively pushed out by licensed platforms.

The pattern is clear: MiCA has already pushed USDT out of many regulated EU venues, AMLR is now targeting privacy itself. Europe does not ban crypto. It only makes crypto increasingly identifiable. Every wallet will eventually have to have a name.
