According to Wu, CryptoRank posted that DeFi TVL has declined every month this year, dropping from about $115 billion in January to about $70 billion, a 39% decrease year‑to‑date, mainly reflecting the overall correction after the market peak in October 2025. Since 2026, DeFi has experienced 121 hacking incidents, resulting in losses of about $942 million, of which the second quarter saw 85 incidents and losses of about $775 million, making it one of the most active quarters for attacks in the dataset. Among the top ten TVL public chains, only TRON and Hyperliquid recorded growth, up roughly 5% and 6.7% respectively; Ethereum, Solana, and Arbitrum saw TVL declines of 43.0%, 40.5%, and 55.3% year‑to‑date. CryptoRank noted that hacking attacks are not the main cause of the current TVL decline, but their high frequency may erode user confidence and accelerate DeFi outflows.
