When a stock closes lower, the probabilities of opening lower the next trading day are 96% for Samsung Electronics and 78% for SK Hynix. Positions cannot be transferred between exchanges. Traders need to establish opposite positions on both exchanges. Shorting on the exchange with the higher price and going long on the exchange with the lower price allows directional P&L to offset each other. As the two prices converge, the initial spread turns into profit. Moreover, short positions on the higher-priced exchange can also generate funding, increasing returns.
